Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program: One Stop Shopping

Massachusetts Vehicle Check now offers one-stop shopping for commercial vehicle inspections. In the past, commercial vehicles had to undergo two inspections, often at different times and locations. Now, the annual state safety inspection is equivalent to a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) inspection, so both requirements are satisfied at once. This streamlined process saves commercial vehicle owners both time and money.

Trailer/Converter DollyDOT inspections

If a trailer/converter dolly had an official DOT inspection prior to January 1, 2009, that inspection is valid for the full 12 months. More information on this policy can be found on the RMV website.

Fee Structure

Fees for commercial vehicle inspections are market-based. This means that in addition to paying $29 for the sticker, a vehicle owner is also charged an hourly shop rate, which can vary from station to station. The shop rate must be posted.

Fleet Inspection Station

A Fleet Inspection Station is a business that owns or maintains a fleet of at least 15 motor vehicles, as well as a garage for the repair and maintenance of those vehicles, and is licensed by the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) to perform the safety or combined safety and emissions inspection on its own vehicles and/or other fleets in the same vehicle class.
