Inspection & Repair Industry: Motorist Assistance Centers
The Massachusetts Vehicle Check program operates 12 Motorist Assistance Centers (MACs) across the state to help emissions repair technicians diagnose problem vehicles, properly set readiness monitors, and understand what customers who are seeking emissions waivers or economic hardship extensions need to do to qualify.
Each MAC is staffed by an L-1 technician and equipped with a two-wheel drive dynamometer, a workstation for conducting diagnostic inspections, and additional scan tools and diagnostic aids. MAC services are free and all information gathered during a motorist assistance session is intended to be relayed to the qualified repair technician who will be working on the vehicle.
If you're having difficulty with the diagnosis, repair or readiness of a particular vehicle, please take advantage of the resources and assistance a MAC can provide you. Contact the Technical Helpdesk at 1-877-834-4677 to schedule an appointment at the nearest MAC.
